shorttrac loongtrac bar

what is the difference between a shorttrac and a longtrac bar. i know it refers to the action but  i shouldered  both guns and the shorttrac seemed to have a shorter stock. and the pull shows to be shorter i really liked the way the longtrac fit me but i wanted a 308 which only comes it a 
shorttrac  which didnt seem right for me  what are the shims that come with the guns for

The longtrac is for standered calibers 30-06,270.,300win mag and the shorttrac is for shorter action calibers, 270 wsm 300wsm 308 243, the shims I belive adjust the comb height but they may lengthen the stock also.

Arkie, were you comparing similar guns?
The synthetic stock version has a slightly longer length of pull vs the wood stocked version.
