Shooting Ranges?
« on: November 10, 2007, 06:31:17 AM »
Folks,
Do you guys know of any shooting ranges in South AL?  I'm in the Dothan/Enterprise area.  There is a shooting range on Ft. Rucker, but it is mostly closed due to training.  I'm trying to get my muzzle loader sighted in before this coming Monday, and don't want to drive the three hours up to Ft. Benning just to shoot a few rounds through a muzzle loader.  The other option is to just go out on Ft Rucker some where and shoot, but I run the risk of getting a ticket doing that.  Thanks for any suggestions.
Brandon

Check my website: http://home.hiwaay.net/~stargate/ and look for the link to Alabama Public Shooting Ranges.

quickdtoo, I checked that site out and did a search for Alabama ranges and didn't come up with any at all. I have most everyone of Alabama ranges listed on my site though.

I got 18 Bama ranges from a general state search, been using them to help fellow shooters out for several years, works great. ;)

Here's another one with 56 hits.. http://www.nrahq.org/shootingrange/findlocal.asp

My site has 106 Alabama public shooting ranges listed. The link to find it is one of the posts I added above. I also put together my shooting ranges page years ago and spent a lot of free time finding out where they are all at with the contact info. And my range site has several cowboy action ranges listed that is not included in the 106 public ranges. If you want to check it out, OK, if not then that's OK too as I don't get paid to list any of them.

The nice thing about the national sites is they work for everyone, not just one state, the more resources we have the better. ;)

Well I guess that's true, but I thought the original post was looking for a range in Alabama. I'm out of this one as it looks like I'm wasting my time here trying to help.

Guys,
Thanks for the links.  I found two ranges that are local to me.  One is the range on Fort Rucker that is generally closed and the other is a club range that I will have to join to utilize the range.   In the mean time, I just went out in the woods, found a good backstop, and sighted in my muzzle loader.  Thanks again for the range location links!

There's one at the Barbour County WMA. It has a 100 yard range with 4 benches, handicap accessible, with a concrete walkway on the side to the target  area, a separate range of 25 and 50 yards next to that,  also with a walkway to the 50 yard berm, and a place to shoot shotguns. You gotta pee in the woods, though!

I bet the range I shoot at is not on ANY of those lists. The fellow that owns it only lets folks come by INVITATION ONLY so it's not exactly public. But it sure is close for me like 10 yards from the door of my garage.  ;D

Thanks all,
I wound up joining the tri-state gun club just outside of Enterpise.  It has a good covered long gun range as well as some excellent covered pistol shooting lanes.
