Remmy 700 CDL or a CZ 550
« on: May 11, 2007, 03:42:30 AM »
I have placed this request for opinion on the bolt action , and the CZ sites....so ..here goes.....I am looking for a bolt action rifle for my son.....I shoot a Remington 700 ADL in a .270 , and it is a tack driver....I also shoot a CZ 527 in a .204 that is amazingly tight grouped...the single set trigger..is a great feature for sighting in ....and it has been a great shooter.       SO , when I step u pto the CZ 550 for a comparison to the Remmy 700....I was looking for feedback.   I know others may suggest a Savage , or a Kimber , or a Sako...but I have narrowed it to two ...any comments are much appreciated.   Thanks

Other than the set trigger, I don't see any advantage of one over the other.  I have owned many Remington 700s and my BDL in .270 was my first deer rifle. It killed my first deer, and piles of them afterward. It has always been a tack-driver and has never given me any problems. Ive had it reblued, I refinished the stock on oil, and had a trigger job. None of these were "needed", but I needed a project at the time.  They are made here in my back yard In New York, which I like.  Other than sentimental reasons, I really don't feel that you could go wrong with either one. However, Remington rifles, particuarly the 700 series, have always been the action that set the bar for accuracy. I like the traditional American Deer Rifle. For me, it's the Remington.

I own both models and they both shoot well. The CZ does weigh more and tends not to balance as well as the Remington. Remington stocks fit me better so that may be part of it. The new Remington trigger takes the trigger advantage away from the CZ unless you have got to have a set trigger. I also have a new 700 with the X-Mark trigger and it is great. I don't buy into the control feed/push feed  arguement. Both have always worked well for me. The stock finish on 2 of my 3 CZs had to be redone when new. Both were very thin and one was almost orange in color. I realize that color does not make a rifle shoot better, but orange was just not my flavor. If I absolutely was forced to purchase a new rifle tomorrow, I think it would be the Remington. Pick well, shoot better!

All a set trigger does, is ADD huge amounts of lock time...  I'd rather have a properly adjusted Rem. trigger in the first place..
