stock finish on Browning 1886 rifle
« on: March 24, 2007, 07:31:35 AM »
I just looked at a Browning model 1886 rifle in 45/70.  Stated on the tag was that it was made in 1986.  The stock appears to have an oil finish however I seem to remember that the Browning 1886 rifles and carbines had a high gloss, plastic type finish.  Do you think the gun stock was refinished?

Thanks,

Rich

Brownings, except for special-order commemoratives, are finished with an epoxy finish - so, it most probably was redone - or  the shine cut down with steel wool & waxed.
