have 7400 270 about 15yrs old- tip of soft point bullets dent and jam, can only use ballistic tip type- any ideas? also what are accuracy tips/adjustments for this model

First, check you magazine since it may be tilting the rounds. I would get a new magazine. The 7400 is a fine rifle. With proper loads 1" to 2" groups are obtainable.

When loading the clip, insert the rounds as far forward as possible. I had the same problem with an older 742 and that took care of the problem. Good luck.
