Handi-rifle fit and finish??
« on: May 25, 2007, 03:22:55 PM »
Hi:

I was reading the archives on the Handi Rifle ( There is a LOT  to read!!! ;D)   I came across some comments on the fit and finish of the Handi rifle , or lack there of.  Has the fit and finish of teh current line of handi rifles improved ?

I also saw on the H&R website, that they have a package deal now on some of the handi rifles.  What brand of scope are they using and can the barrels be switched on a handi rifle that came with the scope from the factory ?

The fit and finish are better than a Rossi.  Larry

I can't say the fit and finish is any better now than it was on older H&Rs, I own a bunch and they're pretty much all the same. Older Ultras had nicer finishes on the barrels, current prodiuction are pretty coarse, older ones had nicely polished blueing. But what the heck should we expect for a $200 rifle?? They are very functional tho, those that aren't, get fixed by H&R with their excellent customer service.

No one has reported on the scoped rifles direct from H&R, but I can't say I've ever been impressed by any scope that came on a rifle direct from a factory, they're usually entry level scopes like the Simmons 8-point. Those on their web site have waaaaay too high rings on them.

Barrels aren't all one size fits all like the Encore/Contender, they're individually fitted at the factory. The scope barrels are no different, just supplied with rings and mounted.

You could buy a barrel from the NEF classified adds and there is a chance it could fit your receiver. If it dose not you could fit it yourself using the FQA at the top of this page. Most people have been sucessifull fitting their own barrels following the instructions. Please be warned though it is on you.
