Hi all
I have a T/C Encore W/a 18" Katana barrel in 45-70. The bullets are 405gr. cast(had them a while think their cast performance) plain base, no gas checks. Would welcome any load data you could provide.
Thanks Hunter

My best accuracy loads in my .45-70s with cast 400-grain bullets use around 25 grains of IMR4227. No crimp, standard primers. This is not a high velocity load, I never chrono'd it, but it is highly accurate - if the bullets are good. There are some poor-quality cast bullets sold in this caliber.
I cast my own.

im going through the same thing with a contender carbine right now. Load data for them is tough to find. I dont usually like asking for loading advise on the internet but ive had to do it myself. Ive got data for my marlins but its all redlined heavy loaded data that im sure would really pound you out of that tc as it makes the little guide gun bark like a 458. Probably the best sorce for cast bullet loads for the 4570 is the lyman cast bullet books.

Hunter
2 loads that i find work very well in my 22" handi rifle for the kids to shoot are 25 - 28 grains of H4895 and 12 - 15 grains of Unique , both with the 405 cast bullet .
They are very light loads but group well out to 100 yards , should be a sweet load in a TC and not break your wrist . For more punch you can go up to 40 grains of the H4895 @ 1260 FPS ( OUCH )

Stimpy, 40gr of H4895 with the 405gr cast should get 1400-1500 fps according to Hodgdon.
I've only shot 50- 55gr with the 405gr Rem, that was good for some stout recoil and about 1900fps, IIRC.

Your right , didn't have my glasses on , Powder charge from one line and ft/s from another .
It shows the 40gr @ 1424 ft/s . Still in Trapdoor levels but may be a tad much in a handgun .
