.223 loads

I'm loading 25.5 grs h335 and a 50 gr sierra bullet. With a clean barrel the first shot goes 6" high the second and third are 11/.2 and 2" above poa. Then I shot three more with fouled barrel with same result. I have no apparent pressure signs. My question is which way do I need to go with my powder charge?

It sounds like you have some kind of problem that isn't related to the powder charge, your rifle is very inconsistent.  I've used H335 and it's a good powder, but personally I wouldn't go over that charge since weather can change a load that is OK, to being too high in hot weather.

pap,

A bit more information might be helpful, such as:
rifle type & twist rate etc.
previous performance with other bullets styles, loads/weights, factory ammo, etc.

FWIW - One .223 I have, with 1:9 twist will not accurately shoot anything under 55 gr.

I too feel that this is not a powder problem , but to be sure back down to 24gr and load 6 , then 6 more at 24.5gr and 6 at 25gr . This will tell you if it is truly a powder problem . also what type of rifle are you shooting ? and what optic's are you using ?

Heavy bbl handi with tasco 3 by 9. This gun handles win white box 45 grs very well and 26.3 gr varget behind sierra 55 gr bullets. Both loads shoot 3 shots under a dime at 100 yds. It is a 1 in 12 twist.Maybe it just don't like sierra 50s.

Try backing off about .5gr , my BB handi seems to shoot beter away from max loads . also see if you can come up with a few other 50gr bullets , it may not like the Sierras .

My 223 handi won't shoot the 50gr sierras either,best it would do is 3-4 inch groups.Switched to 50gr v-max and 50 gr hornady and its a tack driver in the 3s or 4s.

Id be checking your scope and scope mounts first. With groups wandering most times thats the problem.

Thanks Guys I think I'll a different bullet manufacturer. I had tried speer 50s,but they aren't as tight a group as I wanted. Thanks again for the input.

I took rifle apart and checked everything. The only thing I changed was to replace the O ring with a new one.Then loaded some with 24.5 grs of H335 and some with 24.7 grs of H335 and seirra 50s.First batch grouped 1" and the second 1/2 " at 100 yds. Evidently the new O ring made the difference.

O ring?? What O ring? 
FWIW I load 25.5 H335 behind 52gr Sierra HPBT's without problems.  It's my go to load.
