Someplace dry, secure, fire resistant, and if we are talking more than a pound or two probably not in or really near the house.

I have heard of refrigerators being used, but those were non-functioning refrigerators.

Military Surplus ammo boxes seem to be popular, but they still need to go inside a fire resistant, rain resistant, somewhat secure place that probably does not want to be inside your house or garage.

If it damages your house, your insurance company will dis-own you before they pay.

There are federal regulations (The ATF site has links to regs, with the descriptions of the various types of magazines, distances from houses, etc.)

There are possibly state regs in your state that you have to be aware of as well.

Most local fire departments are dealing with people with a couple pounds for black power hunting, and may issue you a very limited permit if they need to in your particular state for storage in the home. Larger amounts they may prefer you not keep in the home.

I would not keep mine in my beer frige. To start with, it has room for exactly three kegs, and there is no extra space in it for powder.  Also, I would not want to walk out back a coupla hundred feet for a refill when my mug went empty  ;D

To be perfectly legal, you will have to check your particular state's regulations. More than likely it will be fire department regulations that you will be interested in.

I personally prefer not to keep it inside my house. I have a small amount... "working material"  in my all metal, detached shed/workshop which resides in ammo boxes. The larger amounts I keep out back in a concrete structure several hundred feet away from anything valuable.

Stay legal, stay safe. Keep it away from sources of ignition.

Unlike smokeless powder which is degraded by heat, black powder is unaffected by heat.  It is very affected by moisture so keeping your powder dry is very important.  Keep in in the original cans, do not transfer to glass containers under any circumstances.  Keep it locked up away from the uninitiated.

moisture will not only affect the powder, but it makes the cans rust. The bottom of the can seems to be affected first.

The legality issue for your area is a matter you should check.

Storage rule # 1 is keep BP in the original container.

For your consideration, the average North American home contains things much more hazardous than BP. Spray paint, gasoline, propane and other flamable liquids come to mind. BP is pretty demure in comparison.

I use an old fridge in my barn for storing BP in the original cans. It holds the legal limit of 50 lbs.

In your case with such a small quantity, you need not be overly concerned about storage location.

Short of the introduction of an ignition source, BP is actually very safe.
