9.3x62 and re-loads

I have shot 285 grn.  Privi-Partisan from Graf, ammunition.  I have re-loaded and shot 286 grn. Nosler Partition in Graf brass, 210 federal primer and RL-15 with very good accuracy.  I think this CZ FS will shoot a lot of ammunition well.  An energy load of over 3500lbs does remarkable things to large game.  This is my elk, Moose, and bear firearm!!  I kind of bumbled on to it because I wanted a Full Stock and I thought with a shorter barrel it wouldn,t be very accurate but I loved how it felt and looked.  Well that was as wrong as I could be.  This is one great firearm and THUMPER really lays the smack down.  Elmer Keith is cheering from his grave!  This firearm has a permanent spot in my gun cabinet.    Buckfever

I have been looking at this site for a while, I went and bought a CZ 550 fs in 9.3x62 and love it.
I use Fed 215 primers, and have tried H-4350, Varget, Win 748,but like blc-2 the best. I have been
shooting speer 270 gr. bullets the most and get 2500 fps. out of this 20" barrel. Best of all I'm
making cases from 30-06.

I agree, it is as fine a big game round as there is. I hunt exclusively with the 250 gr Barnes X at 2650 fps in my 9.3's, a re-bored FN Supreme Mauser and a vintage Husqvarna built on the FN action. The 286 gr Partition is accurate too. I use VV-N550 powder though friends swear by RL-15.  Here's the biggest critter the FN/X combo has taken, five years ago.

Hi dakota elk slayer,

The lightest bullet I have used is 270 gr. However I have gotten good result using fed. 215 primers in a
20" barrel.  With a 250 gr. bullet in a 20" barrel, I would use a faster powder, H-4895, H-322, imr-4320,
or rl-12.  I have gotten high velosity with Blc-2.   With 62.5 grs. of Blc-2, using a 286 gr. bullet I get
2350 fps with a 20" barrel.  With the CZ550 there is room to seat the bullet further out than 3.280.
The barnes 250 gr. tsx is long and would work well, I'm going to try it next, also I like the swift 250 gr.
swift  bullet  I'm also getting 2500 fps. apx. with 270 gr. speer bullet using 67 grs. of Blc-2.

You are getting some DANDY velocity out of that short barrel!!!  What are your thought on Varget for the 250gr Accubond?  Reason why I ask is that I already have that on hand...  I should of loaded up on different powder before I moved.  A pound of Varget is going for something like $26!!!  Gee, with my employee discount, I could've bought an 8 pounder for $70!

How's the accuracy thus far?  Any of the powders giving you problems at keeping 3-shot groups under 2"?

I have not shot any 250 gr. yet.  I have used Varget with the speer 270 gr. bullet, my load is:
Norma brass trimed to 2.436, fed. 215 primer, 59.5 grs. of Varget (Hodgdon Max.), O.A.L. is
3.280.  Velosity is 2429,2411,2413,2415,2402,2410.

Using Siellor & Bellot brass velosity was 2398,2292,2333,2408, 2376
I don't like the S & B brass.

Re-formed 30-06 brass which is 19 to 24 grs. heavier had velosity closer to norma brass.

BLC-2 max. load of 66.0 grs. has velosity 2503,2513,2486,2507,2476
I like this powder with 270 gr. & 286 gr. bullets, Varget was a little more accurate.

H-4350 67.0 grs. with 286 gr. bullet average velosity was 2345
BLC-2  62.5 grs. same velosity 2345 fps.

I have cz 550 fs, didn't expect great accuracy, I noticed my groups were shooting in 2 different
areas.  I noticed that the bluing being rubbed off at metal cap.  Long story short I steel bedded
the end of stock from mussel back apx. 2 1/2 ", the gun shoots 5 rds. in apx. 1 1/2 " at 100
yards off bench allowing barrel to cool between shots.  I"m very happy.

I would like to experiment with seating the bullet out further, using more powder, the CZ 550
has the room, Hope this information helps you.

Ya J.J., that's a big help.  Just picked up my 2 boxes of Accubonds from the local dealer that ordered 'em in for me....  Don't think the bonded core is necessary, but a 250gr. bullet with a BC of .496 sounds pretty good to me!
