Loading from PC to SD card
« on: August 13, 2007, 10:17:44 AM »
Ok, I have another question about data transfer.  I have a Lowrance H2Oc and purchased a Candada MapCreate cd for it. Also bought a 1GB SD card for it.  I realized that my new laptop has a built in card reader/writer on it so I did'nt have to buy one (so I thought!).  When I tried to transfer to the card it says that I need to purchase a card reader/writer from THEM!!!  It won't recongnize my reader. There must be some way around this.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I love the GPS but I'm tiring of Lowrances BS!

I am glad you brought up the issue.  My research indicates that the Lowrance software is designed to work only with a Lowrance card reader.  Again I cannot confirm this because I do not have a Lowrance gps.  We have a number of computers in the house with card readers.  If I had a Lowrance gps at this time I would be very unhappy.

I know there are a few member who have Lowrance gps units, it would be interesting to hear from them.

I just did a little research on the cost of a Lowrance Card reader.  After checking it out my thoughts are to avoid Lowrance gps units.  They maybe good but it looks like it is costly to take advantage of the product.

There is a learning process to effectively using a gps.  Do not throw your compass and map away!
