Barrel suggestions?
« on: May 26, 2007, 01:58:15 PM »
I just ordered a BC .45 Colt as a first handi and am contemplating what other barrels I REALLY NEED!!  Suggestions are welcome.

Dusty,
The answer to your question is obvious to the rest of us, you need all of the others available. The only exception is the .45-70. You will need a couple three of those, one long (32"), one short, (16.5"), and one just right (22"). Then you have to figure out if you want ejector barrels or extractors. Will you be hunting or bench shooting, or both?  :) ;D :)

What do you want to shoot with it, paper, what kind of animals? That would determine what you need. 30-30 is a classic though.

About the only things I hunt now are ground squirrels and rock chucks.  The only handi I have shot is a 45-70 and I didn't care for the recoil though I have 5 other 45-70's.  I fell in love with the looks of the BC and that made me take the plunge.  I'm thinking a 30-30 is a must have (cast bullets of course) but I'm wondering about a .223 or 22 hornet.  I have other 223's and 22-250's so I'm leaning towards the hornet.  Any thoughts?  I love this forum!

Hey Dusty...

Besides the 30-30...I'd opt for a 223/243 24" Bull Barrel...and a 26" 25-06 if I had to choose...I've had real good luck with both 243/25-06 calibers in my Handi's..and most others luv the 223..

Welcome aboard Tim!!! As Bang_Ow said, ya got to have all of em, just one at a time!!! Figurin out the order to get em is the hard part!! The 30-30 as well as the 45-70, 223 and Hornet are all near the top of the most popular barrels to have list, and like Bang_Ow also said, you can't have too many 45-70s!!!

And when ya get all the factory offerings you want, there's always custom chamberings from your favorite gunsmith, a 45-120 BC, 405 Winchester, 338-06 A-Square, 35 Remington, 280 Improved, to name a few....to give you a taste of the possibilities!! ;D

I started with the 223, then the 30-30.
I want 2 shotgun barrels and a 357mag and most likely a 500S&W.

NEF/H&R also makes the sweetest little shotguns you'll ever see. They make some good ole big 'uns too. ;)
Welcome and enjoy yourself.

I have a 22-250, it's being alittle stuborn on a good round to shoot but I know I'll get it there. The 22" stainless barrel is a bull barrel (not listed as a bull in the barrel program but it is a bull) has a nice feel to it & easy to aim steady. Also would like a 308, 270 win. (my favorite cal.) & maybe a 450 marlin. That would be my choices & would cover most anything you wanted to hunt.

Thanks for the welcome!  I think I'll start with a 30-30 and 223 and go from there...  I can see this can be addicting!
