new taurus vs old taurus
« on: May 23, 2007, 02:08:25 PM »
I was wondering if anyone has noticed if there is a quality difference between the older ones and the newer ones. The reason I ask is because I picked up an older pt 138 for 125.00. The gun was in great shape and hardly looked like it had been shot. I got it home and one of the magazines would not stay in the gun. I sent it back to Taurus to get fixed and I got it back but it wasn't fixed. To make a long story short I just sent it off again for the third time to get fixed. I am thinking about getting one of the 45colt/410 but I am a bit worried because of all the problems I am having now.

Real old ones from the real early days were NOT good in my opinion and from my experience with several I owned. Then after awhile things improved and they got REAL GOOD. But then success went to their heads apparently and they got real sloppy and quality suffered but worse than that customer service got even WORSE.

Dunno about today. I gave up on them at least a couple of years or more ago. I've heard both good and bad reports on customer service this year so I suspect it's still spotty and at times you'll luck up and get things fixed but dont' count on it.

A real crying shame as I was once one of their strongest supporters and owned a lot of their guns. Today I own NONE.

I have a "new" torass or had a torass Tracker 44mag. The bbl is turned in too tight and the front sight is off to the right. cant get it to shoot to center. QC is crap. I sold it to a buddy that only cares about 15 foot accuracy and got a Ruger SBH 4 5/8 44mag. Shoots like a dream and is touigher n'  "$#!^". If the old ones were bad and the new ones are suposed to be better then...... they have a wayz to go. My take anyway.
