Breech seater - for bolt action rifle
« on: May 20, 2007, 03:44:38 AM »
In the quest for accuracy with cast bullets it appears that breech seating is of tremendous advantage.

It also seems that breech seating is done with single-shot rifles.

Has anyone done it or seen a breech-seater for, say, a Remington 700 or 40x?

Sure, no sweat. Just turn an aluminum or brass plug to fit into an empty case that sticks out the amount you want. Close the bolt on it, open it, remove case, and load the live one. Now good luck finding a rifle throated for breech seating, unless perhaps you have a Weatherby or something that will swallow the bullet without the case touching it. It's fun to play with, I tried it for a while in my .308, but found I could make fixed ammunition that was just as accurate and less hassle.

I guess I'd be satisfied with 1 MOA accuracy.

I'm sure I'll end up with several throating reamers soon too.
