I recently purchased a kimber 1911, and I really like it. It is slim and comfortable to carry. Now that summer is here, I would like to get something smaller so it is easier to conceal. I have been looking into the short barreled kimbers, as they look like they would be comfortable to carry, easy to hide under light clothing, and still allow me to use the 45 caliber bullet. My hope is that the shorter guns would be as reliable as my 5" kimber. However, I have heard some reports that these shorter 1911's are less reliable than the longer 1911's. What do you folks think about the 3" 1911's?

My experience with the short Kimbers (Ultra Carry & Pro Carry) has been nothing by positive. My Pro Carry routinely outshoots a lot of fullsize pistols. The Ultra is a joy to carry, conceals better than any major caliber pistol that I have carried. (And that's a Lot!) Mine, and those I've been around at the club, have been totally reliable and super accurate. For a carry compact 1911, I don't see how you could do better!

I cant say anything about the Kimber 3 in. however I have a Colt Officers Model with the 3,5 in. barrel and I find it as easy to carry as most others, accuracy for a close range CCW weapon is up there with all the others, however it isnt a Target pistol, go ahead and let us know your findings as I have been considering the Colt Defender myself.   JIM

i used to own a 3 inch cdp kimber and it was a totaly reliable and accurate gun that id recomend to anyone.

I absolutely love my Colt Defender!  It is lightwt, has been 100% so far and I really enjoy it.  I have to say I have had NO issues with short barreled 1911's.  I have owned a couple and they have always functioned and shot as well as the bigger guns.

This is a 40 yd group fired off the porch rail.  I have since installed a higher front sight to bring the group down to the sights.  You can see she is a good shooter.

I have a Kimber Ultra Carry.  Love it.  It'll put the bullets on target as long as I do my part.  Oh and it has never jammed on me; it'll also digest anything from hollow points, to semi wadcutters, and of course hardball.  Go for it!
