38 spec and 38 spec +p=the same brass?
« on: May 26, 2007, 03:39:04 PM »
Does anyone know if Winchester, or Remington for that matter, makes the +P brass any different?  Is the webbing stronger or is it just the headstamp?

I have some 140 xtp bullets that I am going to load in 360 DW and 38 Spec for a Handirifle and was wondering.

I've been loading warm (+P) 38 loads in mixed brass for twenty years and have never been able to detect any difference.  The only way I was able to detect anything weird was with the WCC +P+ brass, it was a tad heavier than the standard velocity stuff, but that could have been the nickle plating.  I wouldn't worry about using mixed brass, but if you're going to load above +P levels, I'd use 357 brass.

Thanks, I just wanted to hear from someone with firsthand experience.  I am going to try a Hodgdon manual load for the 140 xtp with H4227.  Nothing crazy.  I see that the brass has different headstamps but they don't have any discernable weight difference.  Don't know if I spelled discernable correctly.
