reloads in my 22-250 handi
« on: May 26, 2007, 08:40:46 AM »
Today was the first time I shot reloads in my 22-250 stainless bull barrel. As a matter of fact, it was the first time Ive reloaded. I loaded Hornady 55gr. v-max, H380, Remington new brass, CCI mag. primers. Loaded 10 rounds with 37.5 grains of H380 & 10 rounds with 38.0 grains of H380. I shot these, 37.5 first & groups were tighter than the factory winchester 45 gr. hollow points that I started with. Then I shot the 38 gr. loads & they tightened up even better, about 1" group at 100 yds. Guess I need to tweak the load in around there somewhere.  ;D I guess the H380 must really be the right powder for a 22-250. I do have some winchester 760, might try some & see how they group too. I wasnot happy with the factory winchesters at all, was around 3" groups at 100 yrds.

There's always a chance different factory ammo will not shoot as good as good handloads...Every rifle is different..Good going on finding a good load to tweak...that's the beauty of it ;)

Good job buddy , the 380 is a very good powder to use in the 250 , IMR4895 also works well if you get a chance . You do relize that you have just started down a very rocky road .  ;) Handis and reloading , both are very very addictive !!  ;D

Let us know when you hit the 1/2" mark .

I loaded XMR-4350 by Accurate Arms into some .22-250's for a friends Model 700 ADL' Synthetic and it was amazingly accurate.   it was everything you could want in  a varmint/deer rifle!

yes, Model 700's ARE accurate.   but that XMR-4350 proved to be an excellent propellant when combined with Hornady 60 gr' Spire Points in what i gave him.   i did not use magnum primers with it.   i used Win's WLR's for priming.   i crimped the bullets with a Lee Factory Crimp die, which is one of the few Lee products i ever use.

FWIW....

It seems to me, we are all on the quest for the perfect load. I wish everyone the best of luck on the 5 shots in one hole! But I will be happy with 1/2", but I'm still learning. I really thank all of you guys for your help & support. :) Larry
