C.S.A. THE MOVIE
« on: June 03, 2007, 09:09:55 AM »

I don't post on this section of Graybeard's very much even though I do read it from time to time. I just saw this and I was really P.O.'d. My son and I have been waiting to rent a movie from our local Blockbuster called CSA. The writting on the DVD boxes is so small now days that I didn't read the fine print. Well come to find out it's a Spike Lee Movie. It's suposed to be a paroday of what would ahve happened to the United States id the South had won. Y'all look at the website at www.CSAthemovie.com and tell me if I'm overreacting. I guess I should have expected it seeing that Spike Lee had something to do with it but I think this movie takes bad taste to a new level. It serves nothing but to fan the flames of racisism.

Rusty, if you can find a copy of "If The South Had Won the Civil War", by Bruce Catton I think, read that, it's honest.  The author was a historian and had a good grasp of the real situation.  He  makes some coherent arguments on how it could have happened at Gettysburg and the likely end results for both North and South. It ends with an amiable  rejoining of the sections after fighting side by side in WW1 and WW2.   The story has the South not being crushed and it's industry becoming quite strong in the late 1800s.  And he clearly shows how blacks would have been freed by about 1880 or so, without anger on any side.

The book is a good read and thought provoking.  I read it in '65 or so but it still sits hard on my memory, just not sure of the author now!

Looks like a pretty good place for Ironfoot to get some more facts.
This kind of tripe doesn't surprise me.I don't think people in the South haven't overreacted enough.
