Is there a big difference

I was wondering if there was a great difference in performance between Federal 210 and Federal 210m primers in .308 reloads. Thanks.

i assume the "m" are magnum primers.   use what the manuel tells you to use.  and if you arent using a manuel, get one and use it.    certain powders and certain loads require magnum primers.  primersare a crucial part of the round, substituting mags for standard or visa-versa can be trouble.

I have got a little better accuracy with the magnum primers when using the coarser "stick" powders. I think I picked up a few fps too but they may increase the pressure, which can be detrimental to accuracy.   I could see no improvement with the ball powders.   In the .308 you probably won't realize much improvement in a hunting load.  As myonman says the reloading manuals have researched this and made their recommendations so thats one variable I can disregard and just use the published data.

Once again we are treated to an assumption that is flat wrong and took the thread to an area it did not need to go - and it didn't answer the OP's question.  Federal's large rifle magnum primers are 215, not 210M.  The M designation stands for "match".  I have been able to use both 210 and 210M primers interchangeably in non-max loads.  Sometimes the 210M primers gave slightly better accuracy, sometimes not.

You probably won't notice a difference in performance with the match primers. If you were into target shooting and buying large quantities of primers from the same manufacturing lot, then it would be worth buying them because they'll be more consistent within the lot. Often you can get better groups using non-match primers, depending on the lot.

Other than that, Federal makes the best rifle primers available. You really can't go wrong with them.
