From reading back posts I know alot of people prescribe to 4350 for a 165 gr. bullet in their 30-06. I myself use it in my .300 winnie with accuracy results that flat out amaze me.
But I've got some of this h 4895 that I need to use up. I was also thinking my "06 has an 18 1/2 barrel and that the 4895 being a faster burning powder would be more efficient in that length barrel, is my thinking flawed? Any suggestions would be appreciated. All this is just preparation since my stock proabably still has another 2 coats of oil before I can actually go to the range, can you say anticiapation.

The 4895 powder has been used for the .30-06 for years.  It is one of the best powders for this cartridge.  I use military pull down powder of H4895 and am very happy with my results.  Give it a try, you will be too.

I use IMR-4895 Surplus Military Powder with a 150 grain Remington PSPCL bullet in a Browning BAR Lightweight 30-06 with a 20 inch barrel. Five shots across the chronograph averaged 2848 FPS and the extreme spread was only 33 FPS. At 100 yards the 5 shots measured 1.187" center to center of the two farthest holes.
I think you will be pleased with 4895 powder, I know I am, I use it in 223, 30-30, 30-30 Ackley Improved, 308, 30-06 and 45-70.

Certainly shouldn't be a problem.  The 30-06 is pretty liberal about which powders it likes.  I used to use my 30-06 and my 22-250 to "clean out" half boxes of powders that didn't work out in some project or another.

The powder which makes the highest velocity in a long barrel will also make the highest velocity in a short barrel.  This has been proven too many times to dispute.  But that is usually a slow powder, and a slow powder in an '06 carbine will belch flame and have quite a blast to it.  You can give up just a little velocity and use a faster powder with less drama when firing it in that little barrel.  Either 4895 powder would be a good choise - they are not the same.
