$499 good for used Sendero?
« on: June 06, 2007, 05:51:00 PM »
I saw a used Sendero in 270 Win for $499.  The bore had moly in it and moly going into chamber.  The stock was perfect.  I didn't take it apart or remove the bolt, but it looked pretty good.  Should I jump on it?  Or is that about average price.

My impression was that it was fired a lot.  Don't really know why I think that but........the crown had wear and there were carrier or rack marks on the barrel.  The moly was a turnoff.  I really like the 270 for the 130 grain bullets and I like uncommon rifles.

What is a fair price for Very Good Sendero?  Not a Gunbroker price, but a real world price.  I don't know anyone with varmint style rifles.

That's actually a good price if the gun is OK. The moly can be removed but boy is it a PIA to do. I hate the stuff. If it's the gun you wannt the price is good but personally I don't like my .270s nearly that heavy. Mine is a Mtn. Rifle.

I wouldn't want to carry it around anywhere.  It's a heavy one alright.  I want a long range target rifle and it would be something different.  I figure if it was a Sendero in 7mm Rem Mag then they would want alot more for it.  I am heading there tomorrow.  Will see if they still have it.

That is a good price & a used 270 Sendero is very hard to find. Did you look at the barrel with a borescope? Most people who are only casual shooters usually don't use moly, you might want to check out the throat. Like GB, I don't like moly & decided a long time ago that it had more problems than solutions.
I may be interested if you aren't, I hunt with Senderos alot. I do have a couple of light weight bolt guns, but I hunt with Senderos more often.

It was gone.  I made mental plans to sell my 270 M70 and flipflop bills.........Probably for the best.

My concern about the moly was "why is it there?"  If it was some guy who shot competitively or obsessively then the throat might be worn out, etc.  I don't have a borescope and this was Gander Mountain, not a guy you could talk to.  Like I said, the crown concerned me.  The last rifling at the muzzle looked kinda vague and the blueing was worn at the crown.  Maybe the guy tried a little too much elbow grease to get his moly out?
