This could be part of the reason:

Lead prices on the commodities market in 2003 was $0.20 per pound -- Today Over $1.00 per pound

Copper Prices in 2003 - $0.75 per pound --  Today Over $3.30 per pound

We are now competing with foreign markets for all raw materials including metals.  Also the cost of transportation has increased due to fuel costs.  What I need is a lead mine in the back-yard!!!!!!

Just loaded the last of a lot of mil surp 55gr. fmj that I bought as surplus in 1985.  The bill in the box adds up to $15 per thousand.  When I started loading in 1968, the first can of powder I bought (Alcan) was $1.95.  I've still got the can with the price tag on it.  Guess we're all getting older.

Ammo and components have all taken a big jump in the last 2 years.  The biggest excuse being used right now is that everything that can be is being sent to our boys overseas.  Even the local police supply house has notified police depts. that they will not be able to supply ammo or components as in the past and to expect delays of up to 5 months until further notice.

Smells a lot like gasoline (among other things) to me. :-\

I use to sell primers for $14-$15 a brick. Now I'm paying over $18 from the distributor. Of course, when I was 6-7 years old, early '60's, I pumped gas at my dad's store for 29cents a gallon. Times are a changin!! We keep trying peace, it usually doesn't work!!Remember(12/7/41)(9/11/01) gypsyman

That reminds me of the gas wars of that era when I started driving in '62, 23cents a gallon for gas, whata concept!! :D

I have to chuckle on that statement of "gas wars"in  the 60's. I remember filling up a 55 gallon drum with an outboard mixture to take on a fishing trip to a remote "drive able" Quebec fishing camp. It costs a whole 19cents a gallon. At the lake site it sold for $1.00 a gallon. ;D

Yes I remember that .18 cent Gas and .10 cent heating oil and sitting out in that old wooden out building with the two holes in the wooden boards and fine powder snow blowing through the cracks on those windy -20 degree days, and $1.09 an hour wages.
I dont think things have changed that much except using the two holler and loss of some of my freedom the givernment took.

My favorite steak knife is a serrated model that was given as a promotional item by American gas stations during the gas wars of the 60's (It then became Amoco, then BP.)

Anybody else got promotional items from that era? Some gave dishes away with each fill-up.

Wish y'all 'd kinda get off that driving thing. I started driving with a horse.  No, no, no, I'm not THAT old...we had some cars.  I believe it was the first year of the Impala though...1958.
