What is the purpose of the hood over the front sight? Does this hood just slide on to the ramp? How is the front sight width changed on this model?

There is a post in the hood. The hood keeps the light off the post so you get good visibility of your sights. NO glare or reflection unless sun or light is directly behind you. Hood and post come off together. There is also a hooded sight with variable width post available thru Ken Light Mfg.
