Surprised at the weight of the Baikel MH18.
« on: June 10, 2007, 01:13:44 PM »
Thinking about a few things and the possiblity of fitting another barrel to the Baikel. So I broke it down to it's major bits and weighed them. Now my rifle is chambered in .222 Remington and has a Leupold M8 Compact scope in steel ring mounts and all up it weighs 8lbs 3 oz. Now this surprised the heck out of me as I thought it would weigh less.

Just goes to show how wrong one can be.

If I can get a suitable piece of good steel to make the breech for the barrel to screw into it will be chambered for a .308 rimmed wildcat that I have in mind based on the .303 British case shortened and blown out like an Ackley Imp. As the rifle is available chambered in 7.62x39mm the action and lock up should be about perfect for it.
