OK, I bought the 460, now what rings should I use

Thanks for all the responses to my 44 verses 460 post. I bought the 460 PC with the 7 1/2" barrel. It's the blue and stainless one currently shown on their web site.
It has the built in Weaver style rail on top of the barrel. I will mount a 2 x 7 Burris or Leupold, which ever I can get a deal on.
WHAT RINGS DO YOU SUGGEST I USE?

I have that exact gun. I put medium Warne rings on a Bushnell Trophy 2x6x32. I think Warne makes some of the best rings out there. I have over 2000 rounds through my 460 Mag and never had on problem with the rings, scope or anything for that matter.

Did you use the optional steel mounting bar that screws to the integral rail on the barrel or did use just mount the rings directly to the integral rail?

I use the optional mounting bar, it allows for a better mount and puts the scope over the barrel. If you use the integral mount with a scope it will not allow for a proper mount of the scope, it puts the scope to far back over the hammer.

I recommend Weigand Combat Magnum scope rings...Tough as nails...Jack Weigand recommends three or four ring sets for the S&W 460 and 500 shooting heavy loads.

WNY_Whitetailer, Jack Weigand my recommend three or four ring sets for the S&W 460 and 500 shooting heavy loads, but it is not needed.  I have well over 2000 rounds through my 460 Mag shooting heavy loaded 300 and 325 gr. bullets and the scope has not moved at all.

Why wouldn't Jack Weigand recommend 3 of 4 sets of ring, he would make a lot more money on the sale of his rings. On yea, my 500 Mag only has two rings also, and well over 3500 rounds down the tube without the scope moving. Sometimes I think people do it more for the look than for practical reasons. Yes Weigand makes very good rings also, but 3 or 4 sets of rings??

I have the whole Weigand setup on my basic 460.  I bought 4 rings and yes you could argue the need of 2, 3, or 4 rings till the cows come home   When I order my set they had a sale if you bought the X frame base you get 20% off rings.  I thought why not and I like them and the look.  I have not price checked in awhile, but I think my weigand base and rings were a little cheaper than the warne.  Hope this helps   I also depends if you want those quick detach rings or basic rings.  I went with the basic rings I don't plan on putting my scope on anything else.

Your gun, do what you like.  I don't like the look of 3 or 4 rings on my handguns, but that is my preference. But if you like the look, go for it. As far as need. Sorry but no need to argue until the cows come home, NOT NEEDED. 

Warne might be a little higher in price, but not by much at all, but well worth every penny. I use them on all my heavy handguns and  big bore rifles.  Never needed more than 2.

weigand bases and rings are the best i have found.  real professional company too.
