replacing standard SBH-H grip frame w/ Bisley Frame
« on: June 01, 2007, 05:28:18 PM »
Does anyone have experience with switching grip frames from a standard SBH grip-frame to a SBH Bisley. I prefer the standard trigger and hammer as is. Any recommendations as to whom would be the best for the task? And /or what parts are essential to complete the task.?

Its pretty much a bolt up operation. It gets tricky on a blued gun because swapping any ruger grip frame from one gun to the other is pot luck for fit and usually requires some filing. Ive never done it without putting a bilsley trigger and hammer in too so i cant answer that part of your question.

Can the grip frame  be ordered from Ruger...and would that be all that's needed?

I've done a couple.  You are going to have to order the two screws that fit through the back of the grip.  Obviously, you will need different grip panels.  The fit never matches up clean; therefore, you are going to have to file the grip and mainframe to have a good fit.  Then the revolvers must be reblued.  Brownells carries the kit for this operation.

The parts are available from Ruger.  If you're ordering the bluedone, it'll come "in the white".  Like MS Hitman stated, you'll need the upper grip screws also.

Based on what I've heard, the blued version is the only one currently available.  Ruger apparently no longer offers the stainless version.

If the blued is all that Ruger offers, then I'd have the two-toned look....not sure I like that....perhaps a revolver-smith may have a loose SS Bisley grip laying around and would trade/sell. If I'm to keep this revolver I have to do something to "get-a-grip".

Check into the availability of the stainless grip frames.  Like I said, this is what I've heard.  The news may be incorrect.
