T/C Hawken trigger question
« on: June 09, 2007, 06:33:20 AM »
Got a dandy load worked up for my 45 cal hawken but I have a problem. A very slight blow to the hammer will cause it to fall at half and full cock. Trigger weight is very lite, almost too lite. I even had the gun fire after releasing the hammer, fell back on it's own. The last thing I want is to have a dangerous gun so if this is something a gunsmith or t/c can fix that's what I will do, thanks in advance for the info and God bless!!!!

Have you adjusted the trigger? If so back off the adjustment and see if the fixes it if not T/C has excellent service and should be able to fix it no problem.

When I traded for the gun the adjustment was set so the set trigger didn't even function, I followed the t/c directions for adjusting the set trigger to what they recommended. I just cleaned the gun and had the hammer assembly off to see how it functions and although I couldn't see anything out of the ordinary the hammer would fall with pressure on the back of it. The gun is very unsafe in it's current state.

Send it back to TC for warranty work on the trigger, might want to call them first though.

Does this happen when using it in the single trigger mode, or when using the set trigger? The trigger adjustment screw is just for adjusting the set trigger mode. If you have followed the instructions in the T/C manual, for trigger adjustment, and you still have problems, do send it to T/C Service. I have dealt with them in the past, and I'm sure you will be satisfied.

I don't think the problem is with the trigger asm...sounds like the sear/tumbler engagement to me...the former owner may have tried to polish the sear tip & tumbler notches with a Dremel tool, and got the engagement too critical so now the sear tip is slipping out, wont hold...send the lock back to TC with an explanation and they'll fix it, no charge

Roundball, from what I have seen of the way the hammer mechanism works I would say that your description is best. The set trigger seems to work fine the hammer assembly seems to be the culprit. I will definately contact t/c, thanks for all the info, guys, and God bless!!
