I have 32 complete rifles and 3 shotguns, plus a frame and Shilen barrel at my gunsmith's being built into a 6.5x55, you can tell I don't care for multiple barrels on one frame, here's a pic of most of them.

For now I have 2 receivers and 4 barrels. It worked out good doing some buying and trading here. I have one frame that fits my 204  24'' bull fluted barrel and my 243  24'' bull barrel that frame has synthics Monte Carlo style on it. Then I have another receiver that my 26'' 280 barrel and my 450 Marlin barrel fits it wears plain jane pallet wood Monte Carlo stocks. The reason I said it worked out well is I have my varmint set up and my deer set up on differnt receivers. I am sure I will end up with at least a couple more receivers and at least 5 or 6 more barrels in the future. I have to slow down a little and buy some good glass for what I have now. The glass costs more than the barrels for crying out loud. Good luck with your future endevers.    Dale

I have one SB1, one SB2 and a rimfire frame with eight bbls between them. I have a steel trigger guard on the SB2 and will be fitting another to the SB1. If I could get over my phobia of a plastic guard  (Or could afford to buy some more steel ones) I might have more complete rifles...

I have 5 complete guns  and  every thing is interchangeable . But once I set them up the way I want I pretty much leave them alone, so I guess I fall into the group that buys complete guns. Besides , I don't have to wait 6 to 10 weeks or longer before I get to shoot my new toys, sometimes I can take it to the range the same day.

They did, just think what they'd a cost me at $400-$600 each!! Although a couple of em did cost that much, the 405 Winchester and 338-06 A-Square.

H&R no longer has the steel parts, unfortunately. :-\

Wife gave me a 45/70, I bought a 280 barrel then bought a 223 ultra varmint and receiver and stock to go with my 280 barrel.  When I went to pick this up from my ffl, he had a buffalo classic sitting there.  So now I have 4 complete rifles and interested in getting a 357 and 44 mag.  Ain't life great.

I bought a 223 Ultra with 24" barrel and Laminated stocks. I never shot a round through it and sent it in for a 30-30 and a 44 mag barrel. While the barrel sale was going on found out about that through this site. GBO is great isn't it? I called before I sent it. That was a tip I got on this this site. Thanks again guys. I found out they did not have any 44 Mag barrels in stock so I got a 357 Mag Barrel instead. This gave me time to clean up the barrel and give it a good polish job (bore and chamber) before I got the receiver and other two barrels back. I have a real hankerin' for a light weight 22 Hornet, 444 and 30-06. I really like the laminated stocks and none of those have laminated stocks on them. Do I buy one and send in for the other barrels + lams. Do I buy separate and buy after markets stocks for each of them? :-\ Decisions, decisions what is a guy to do? What ever I do, I will have at least one other receiver. Three barrels/receiver is enough for me. ;)

Do I buy separate and buy after markets stocks for each of them?

The last two frames I sent in for barrels were sent without a stock set, I ordered laminated sets both times, really simplifies shipping, a frame weighs less than 2lbs and can be put in a small Priority box and sent for about $7 insured with delivery confirmation. Laminated stocks don't sell for much less in the classifieds than what they cost new and the $10 return shipping is real reasonable, a camo or cinn lam set is less than $100 from them. ;)

Peanut, I talked to a woman in the service department last Friday. She suggested I wait until August to send in a frame for a .357 barrel. It'll be about a month before the next run of barrels is available, and then they go on summer vacation.

Are you saying the whole plant goes on vacation at the same time? I have never heard of such a thing. Why in the world would you shut down a plant and lose all the money they could be making fitting barrels. It would make more sense for Joe to go on vacation in May and Bill to go on vacation in June and Dick to go in July. Well you get the point. Sounds like they need a new plant manger. Just my 2 cents.

Mitch, did she indicate this was a new summer shutdown time? They have never mentioned that before, their only shutdown time has been during Christmas/New Years in the past.

That said, summer is real slow for them, that's why turn around times during that time are short, and with over 250 employees, it doesn't take much to figure out that if they aren't real busy during that time, it would be a good time to cut hours to save some money and thus keep their product costs down.

I used to work in a factory that shut down in July for maintenance/retooling.
If you want details, call and ask. The only part of the conversation I really paid attention to was "you want to send us the action in August if you want it back quick".

That would be real nice if they shut down for retooling, they've been running on old stuff for too long, maybe the tolerances and QC will improve!! Hope...hope!!! ;)

I'm just getting started in the NEF's.

Have two guns, and two actions, need a HMR barrel but, nobody here wants to part with one
it seems.
Intend to get a few more as funds and projects are caught up with.

3 complete guns:  .38-55 Target, 20 Ga. Ultra slug, and a Topper .22 Hornet with the full-length forend.  The .22 Hornet is the latest addition.  It is equipped with a vintage Weaver V-8 scope, the one with external adjustments.  I was drawn to the H&R's because I can buy a complete gun for the price of an Encore barrel, and the barrel program is great.  If only they would figure out how to make interchangable barrels....  T/ C somehow managed to do that.  It would be worth an extra few bucks.

My .38-55 has the typical tight chamber, large barrel i.d. combination, making reloading with proper diameter cast bullets impossible.  Has H&R figured out how to get the right combination of barrel diameter and chamber yet?  It wears a Tasco Red-Dot sight that I haven't gotten around to sighting in.

Answer to Dale:  Many factories shut down for 1-2 weeks in the summer, or whatever season is appropriate to their business, for maintenance purposes.  It is an opportunity to service the electrical system and other big maintenance jobs that would interfere with production.

Woodchukhntr is correct.  It is pretty common for manufacturing facilities which have a cyclical slow period to shut down manufacturing for a week or two during that period.  Why pay employees for sitting idle and then have to pay them for vacation time at some other time when they need every available body to produce products for the peak season.

In the case of a firearms manufacturer like H&R there are few hunting seasons in the middle of summer so firearms sales drop off, then pick up again in the fall.  If they continued to produce guns throughout the spring and summer months they would have to warehouse them (a big expense) until sales pick back up in the fall.  And as Woodchuckhntr pointed out this time is often used for equipment maintenance, upgrades and or replacement so that they are ready for the fall rush.
