What is the ID of a full scale coehorn mortar? And what are people using for a projectile?

The ID of the shell portion of a 24 pounder Coehorn is 5.82" which uses a shell of 5.68" diameter.  The chamber is 3" in diameter at the top, 2" at the bottom and 4.25" deep.

The N-SSA types use some kind of spherical projectile.  I don't know what is a good fit for back yarders.

Thanks ggaskill, Thats what I wanted to know 5.68" shell.  So what is the length of the barrel (top of powder chamber to end of muzzle)?  And yes I'm looking for cheap ammo as I am a back yarder, So anyone here that has one let's here what you shoot.  I have half scale and shoot soda cans full of cement, But thinking about getting a full scale! ;D

All the crews that I am familar with use a sandcored zinc shell.  The shells have two indentations which allows for the use of shell hooks.  Using shell hooks allows you to place the shell in the bore the same way every time.  These shells are reusable as long as you can find them.

The choices are between cheap ammo and histerical accuracy.

If you're going to compete, go for the histerical accuracy - because those are the calibers that are allowed.

If you're going to shoot, pick the caliber that matches available ammo - beer cans, soda bottles. PVC pipe (filled with concrete).
