Has anyone used the gold bar inlaid front sights on your revolvers, and if so how do you like them, if now what the heck do you like ?

rad about them years ago and thought it a good idea... was wondering how easy to see they are with older eyes... I plink at long range and would like to install them on my weapons..
what do you think of express sights on the other hand...?  I have my doubts about that set up except for really  range. but never shot one.

also any experience with ghost rings on large revolvers ?

I have gold bars on my .38-40 Linebaugh conversion.  They are good for shooting at longer ranges; consistancy is everything.  I do not have any experience with the ghost rings on revolvers.

DId you regulate the heighth of the gold bars, did the smith do it, or did you just figure out where the load hits relating the bars to the point of impact at various distances.  do you guys find the need for several bars or ljust one or just two ?  I am curious about this and want one, but am trying to decide how to do it... send it to a smith, go to a jeweler, order it up from a supplier like brownells or midway or something. I realize it is something that u usually get on the weapon from the smith, so do I have to send the thing to linebuagh or bowen to get that sight done right...
I hope this is a clear and good question..
I jus needs ta know dis...

I thought about getting one from Clements for my SBHH. Anyone ever hunted with Gold Bars? I currently have one of his modified post front sights and a Bowen Target rear.

I have two bars on my front sight which spilts the sight into thirds.  This not done for a particular load, but rather as a gauge for consistantly holding the front sight for additional windage when shooting at distances farther than what the revolver is sighted in for.  This is done by the gunsmith.  You'd most likely scare the heck out of a jeweler unless they knew you.

You can talk to Keith if he's still at Custom Gun Works and maybe he'd install it for you.  Otherwise, I'd talk to John about the installation.  I'd recommend you take some whiteout or model paint and carefully paint on two bars to see if it is something you think will help you before going to the expense and effort of sending the revolver back to have the work done.

hitman hit it on the head. There not regulated per say but are just two more refernce points for aim when trying to find your range.

If its a stainless ruger probably your easiest bet is to just buy a new post front sight from clements with bars on it I think there around 50 bucks with the bars. You end up that way with a much better sight picture to boot. Little advice if you do have him make it at .10 its a little thinner then his stock sight and gives you a little more light on both sides of a rear sight. especially if your using a bowen rear. It alllows for a little better sight picture and a little more light to seap through in late evening hunts. Also ill make a comment on appature sights on sixguns. Some guys like them in my opionion they belong on rifles. They dont allow for a precise enough sight alignment for target work with a handgun and there not near as handy for long range work as a stock set of sights and in my opinion for what its worth (not much) i think there dog ugly on a handgun. Want to ruin the lines of a nice ruger fast. Put a peep sight on it and a set of rubber grips!!! I dont care if the combination of them shrunk my groups in half i wouldnt have them.

Hitman,
I would love to see the look on a jewelers face here in Jackson when you pulled that out trying to explain it to him.  You would be lucky not to be shot at down on Pearl Street.  GS
