Removing a Condender Grip
« on: June 21, 2007, 06:07:12 AM »
Several years ago I refinished a custom grip for my Contender with Truoil. It came out very nice. Recently I attempted to remove the grip and took out the grip screw. For some reason the finish has stuck to the mounting lug and I can not remove the grip. I don't want to screw up the finish by prying on it. Any suggestions for safely removing iot from the frame?

Well, I've never had this happen, but if it were mine I would hold it firmly by the barrel and forearm and give it two whacks with a rubber hammer, one on the rear and one on the front, both at the heel of the grip.  Make sure they are front to back or back to front whacks; sideways can crack the grip where it goes up on the sides of the frame.  If that didn't work, I might give it two more whacks, slightly harder.  Do this over a carpeted floor, and let us know what happens.

I might try to put it in the freezer for a few hours.  The steel will contract more than the wood and it may break the finish loose.
