If it's raining at fly down time the turkeys might very well just stay on the roost.  If they do fly down expect them to behave differently.  On rainy days they won't be as excited about strutting and showing off in their strut zones.  Often you will hear less or substantially less gobbling on rainy days too.  Course if you still go try there's always a chance.  I sat in the rain for about an hour a few years back when this dude came by.  Never said a word, never strutted.  I had patterned several turkeys that moved between roosting trees and a pasture.  I got myself in their path and expected them to eventually come by.  They did.  It's not as much fun as hunting on a beautiful clear day, but it can be effective.

I've seen wind and rain push the turkeys out into the fields more.  I think the increased noise and movement in the woods negates their keen senses.
God made the toms to strut in sunlight and show off all their colors, so it stands to reason that they'll strut less on rainy days (instinctual)

As long as it's not a downpour, rainy days can be great....if you can find a field they're going into.
And like dukkillr said, they'll usually stay on the roost alot longer in the morning.

When its raining or windy, Ole Tom loses the advantage of his superior hearing and has to rely on his other great sense, eye site.  In order to take advantage of his site he locates out in a field or clearng where he can instantly see anything approaching from any direction or as has already been stated, sits high in a tree, again where he can see all around.  I think this trend has become much more prevalent since the spread of the coyote over the eastern turkey woods.  I reakon if Tom can outdo the coyote, it ought not to be too embaressing for an old coot like to come home empty handed.  Oh well, I'm still gonna keep after him as long as these old legs will carry me anyway.  GOOD SHOOTIN',  Walt   ;)
