Not a varmint model, but I do have a regular SPS in 223.  I like the matte blue metal work but couldn't get along with the synthetic stock, so I ended up getting a BDL stock off e-bay.  Added a Shilen trigger and now I'm happy.  I do still need to tweek up a good load for it though.

I looked long and hard at the new varmint model when they first came out.  I do like the looks of them too!

JHawker,
I picked up my 22-250 Varmint yesterday.Mounted a VX2 6x18 with the long range varmint reticle.Went to the range this morning.Wow I really love this rifle. After getting it zeroed if I do my part you can cover the 3 shot groups with a dime. I do need to lighten the trigger pull.Shoots the 45 and 50 grain bullets excellent.Tryed some 55 grain that one of my friends had and they were all over the place.

be careful with the trigger on this.  I have one and if you dont have the new x pro trigger     you better get someone that knows really what the are doing.  My trigger was not the standard 700 trigger that i am use to. I can usually do a trigger in about 30 min.  This trigger took me 4 days of tinkering and cussing.  finally had to take it to a friend who spent the better part of an afternoon taking care of it.

ohhh yeah     38.5 grns H380   55grn sierra game king and remmington brass, winchester primer.     shot 5 shot groups that average 3/8 inch.  I have mine topped off witha  leupold 4X14X50 LPS scope.
LUCK when preperation meets opportunity.

I've got an SPS Tactical in 223 on the way. I hope to have it soon. I wanted to try out the 20" HB 700 from Remington, since I've already got a 26" HB 700.  MI VHNTR

I'm assuming you're speaking of the SPS Varmint unless there is indeed a model tagged with "Tactical", in which case please point me in the right direction. If it's on the site, I fear I'm going blind  :-\

Let us know how she shoots!

EDIT: I did indeed find the Tactical model. I skimmed right past it this morning, I blame the lack of Folgers  ;D

How much did you pay for it? Is it a lot cheaper than a 700 Police?

I was in Gander and came very close to ordering the XCR Tactical but they're prices are so high. I hope Dicks can order it, their prices are far better lately than anyone around here. I blame most you for putting me in the "must buy a Remmy" mode. The bug for a new safe queen usually doesnt hit until late summer/early fall  :D

Here's a link to the SPS Tactical. It's a Remington Premier Dealer Exclusive model.

I bought the rifle from a dealer in MT, off of another board. It is MUCH cheaper than the 700 Police at $525 shipped to my FFL. If you want more info, shoot me a PM and I'll give you the details as to where to get one.  MI VHNTR

I don't know how serious my cousin is about snagging one but if/when the time comes, I may be messaging you for info. The Police is out of his price range and from the looks of it, the SPS is a good alternative.

When you shoot it enough to get an idea of what it's capable of, Please get back in here and tell us what ya think  8)

I have a Remington SPS in 22-250,black stock, matt black all over and sporter weight barrel and it is a keeper. I adjusted the trigger myself to a 3 pound pull by backing off the weight adjustment screw and didn't touch the other screws at all. A gunsmith told me to do that and then test the rifle for safety by banging the butt on the floor a bunch of times and slamming the bolt about 20 times.According to all this,my rifle is safe and the trigger is just right for me.I don't like a trigger below 3 pounds for hunting/carry anyhow.
I haven't played with loads that much to find what it truely likes but 35 grs. of Varget,WLR primer, new Winchester brass and 50 gr. Hornady V-Max got me one ragged holes at 100 yards that I can't even measure. 38.0 grs. of H380 and 55 gr.Hornady V-Max ,WLP, and new Win brass got me .420 and below.
I bought this rifle after buying a new Savage Classic in 22-250 and have yet to find what it wants to shoot.I had a few groups under half inch but I can't seem to repeat it.1-1/2 inch to 3 inches is more the norm for that rifle so there is something wrong in Denmark. So,I like the Remington much better and it fits me better also, and the matt black won't warn the gritters that I am in the area.
