45 ACP Cylinder ?
« on: June 06, 2007, 03:00:06 PM »
Anyone have a 45ACP cylinder for their FA 83 or 97?  Accuracy? Any function issues? I was wondering about accuracy as compared to a top 1911 as the bullet has farther to travel in the cylinder before hitting the barrel compared to an auto.

My Ruger and my FA 97 are both at least as accurate as any accurized 1911 I've ever owned.

I have the FA97 with both 45 Colt and 45acp cylinders.

I tend to use the acp cylinder a lot more than the colt cylinder.  ACP brass is cheap and plentiful and 45 colt brass is not.  I have not noticed any accuracy difference between the two cylinders. My ACP load is a 255 Keith at .452 over enough HS-6 to achieve 900-1000 fps.

The only functioning problem I have run into is related to using 'dirty' powders in the acp cylinder over long range sessions.  Due to the tight chamber specs and the powder fouling I find myself having to exert some thumb pressure in order to get acp rounds to fully chamber after a while.  Stopping to clean the cylinder of fouling solves the problem.  I have never experienced this with the 45 Colt cylinder.

Model 83 Premier 454 & 45 ACP.  I shoot 45 ACP all the time.  Extremely accurate and makes a great companion at the range with my "modern" 1911's  ;)
