Front dovetail question
« on: June 27, 2007, 10:27:07 AM »
On my 38-55 Target model, the front sight is in a 3/8" (I think) dovetail.  I'll most likely remove it but will need to place a block to elevate the front scope mount (32 1/2" long Dixie scope, for those not following my progress).  Does anyone know of anything that is already made that might fill the bill here?  It needs to be about 3/4" high with a dovetail on the bottom.

I know this is an odd request, but many of you guys have been around gun PARTS more than me. so I'm hopefull.

Ya know Quick, I'd forgot all about Lee for this.  I'll have to fire off an email to him and see what he says.

See?  That's why I posted.  I've been rackin my brain for weeks on this.  I like to visualize an idea in my head, put it on paper, then TRY to make it.

Thanks Tim.

Sounds like the same mounting arrangement used for mounting Malcom and Hakko scopes on BPCRs.
Montana Vintage Arms makes those long scope too.

May your pen have a lot of ink in it when you pull out your check book.

Yes we have, it's out of my league too.  That's why I'm "engineering" my own.  Ideas are in my head, but looking to see if better, more affordable ones, already exist.  So far it doesn't look like it.

Lyman make a couple of front sights you might cut off and use for a base.

The 17 ATC is .852 tall and the 20 LJT is .825 tall.

You could braze a target scope dovetail block to a 3/8' dovetail blank and use the Lyman 93 bottom half for a base.
