Ruger Convertibles ?
« on: June 19, 2007, 08:00:17 AM »
For those who have owned a 357 or 45 Ruger with extra cylinders how have the 9mm or 45ACP cylinders worked out for accuracy as compared to the standard cylindrers?

They Blackhawk .45 convertibles I have owned have shot equally well using .45 colt and .45 ACP handloads.  2 to 2/12" groups at 25 yards.

The 9mm convertible .357 I shot seemed to be slightly less accurate using ball ammo compared to the .38/.357 reloads fired in it.  That was probably due to the slightly undersized and mediocre surplus ball ammo used.  38/.357 accuracy was very good, giving 1 1/2 to 2" groups at 25 yards.

I have both barrel lengths in the .357/9mm, and they both shoot the 9mm great. They both like jacketed 9mm bullets better than lead. The .357s are still the most fun! (But of course, more expensive.)

I have 2 45 acp convertables. Both cylinders are also cut for the auto rim round. Both are suprisingly accurate!

I, too have a couple of .45 Colt NMBHs with .45 ACP cylinders trimmed for .45AR. Once the usual Ruger accuracy issues are addressed, they are very accurate with all three rounds.
