I own two. Bought the first one just over a year ago. The model is the synthetic stainless 580. It has about 1,200 rounds through it. The rifle has a decent trigger and is capable of 2-3 MOA with Wolf 55 grain FMJ. It weights under 7 lbs with a 10 shot clip installed and carries and handles great. Sort of a super M1 carbine in my book. It has become my trail rifle, supplanting the heavier and older Mini-30 (189 series I own) I used to carry. I liked the 580 so much I bought a wood stocked stainless version last fall. This has a perfect two stage trigger and is surprisingly accurate. It is heavier and about 3/8 to 1/2 inch longer than the synthetic stocked 580 rifle. It shoots 1.5 to 2 MOA with Wolf 62 grain HP. I like the new sights and the picture they present for target shooting and rough field use the protected rear and blade front are good. For hunting, the new sights could offer quicker target acquisition, as is the problem for this peep and blade front with protective wings set up IMO. This is not a slam against the Ruger, as any rifle with this sight set up (M1 Garand, M14, Carbine, FN-FAL, etc) has the same target acquisition problem on snap shots in poor or mottled lighting as I see it. As I do not use this as a hunting firearm I like and endorse these sights for my intended use of these rifles, that is, offhand target shooting at 200 yards and 300 meters and as trail rifles. If I wanted to hunt with the rifle I would get a bead front sight like they use on the Deerfield.
