Painted my .45-70 this morning !

 Well I guess its finally time to shoot again. I shortened the stock to 13-1/2 and painted the bbl and reciever with flat black rustoleum  as the blue wasn't all that good. Looks great ! Repositioned the scope a little and I'm ready to go. But, it's 90 in the shade so it might be a while. Thanks to Quick and all the guys who helped walk me through the purchase of the  rifle and scope.

I bet it does look good. That is why the handi is so appealing to some - the customizing. I would be curious as to how the Rustoleum holds up. Does it chip off, do solvents soften it, does it wear well, etc? I have given some thought to painted finishes, but was under the impression that they needed to be the baked on epoxy or of that type for the metal any way. Please keep us informed.

when i painted my .17HMR od green, it rubbed off easily, so i applied a few coats of acrylic sealent and it worked for it and the .308 survivor.

 I have done this to a few of my other guns, my Remington pump turkey gun and my Blr .358 which I use for bear. Both get a lot of hard use. Never had any problems, unless I scrape it aganist a rock or something. No solvent or cleaning stuff I have used bothers it. My shotgun has been painted for 12 yrs and still looks good. If you get a scrape, just give it a little shot of paint. I find that 3 light coats does the job. It's very hard to get off ! a lot of elbow grease and some lacquer thinner  usually does the job.
