Purchasing extra memory
« on: June 26, 2007, 05:31:29 AM »
I have a Lowrance H2OC with the Lake Master chip for Wisconsin.  And for the most part am thrilled with its performance.  Was thinking of buying the MapCreate 7 for it and was wondering about memory cards.  Are the MMC and SD cards fairly universal?  Ive seen a big price difference between them. On Ebay you can get them for about $15 for a 1MB.  Also was wondering about card readers/writers.  They have them there for about $5.

I have not work with the H20C but SD cards are common and cheap.  From what I have read they are an improvement over the MMC cards.  Take a look at this link  http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_/102-0032387-6390541?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=sd+chip

A little more info:

I believe that you will find Amazon a good on line source for a card reader.

http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-SDDR-103-MobileMate-TransFlash-Package/dp/B000652LUG/ref=pd_bbs_2/102-0032387-6390541?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1182957996&sr=8-2

BUT it looks like you can buy the MapCreate 7 software and in comes with a card reader.  You may want to contact Lowrance directly.

http://www.lowrance.com/Support/Contact/default.asp

“The MapCreate™ 7 software is compatible with Lowrance mapping GPS+WAAS products with digital media memory card (MMC/SD) capability. A variety of accessory pack options are available with the DVD-ROM software, including an LEI MMC/SD card reader/writer, one digital media card, and with or without a 12-parallel channel GPS+WAAS satellite receiver/antenna.

Optional Mapping Accessories Pack that includes MapCreate™ USA Topo mapping software, one digital MMC/SD memory card, and an MMC/SD card reader/writer with USB connector”

Unfortunately I do not own a Lowrance gps and map create so my impute to readers has to be very limited.
