During the past couple years there were articles in the Doublegun and Single Shot Journal where the authors addressed the pros and cons of break-over versus falling-block single shot rifles for hunting. I think the advantages of the falling block were that one could reload without taking the gun from his shoulder. The advantage of the break-over was better accessibilty for loading and unloading. In addition, I think the break-overs are handy in that one can break them over for safety when encountering others or walking on unsure ground. I think the falling blocks are better for target shooting since they are stiffer and brass should last more reloads, but I don't shoot enough ammo when hunting that brass life is a major concern. Anyway, I think breakover single-shot rifles are great for hunting. I have bolt actions and and others, but most of my hunting is with Thompson-Center TCR's because they work so well.
