I'm glad nobody told him.  That is a fine harvest.  The old 303 will still fill the freezer (one of my favorite rounds).  And that was a nice easy shooting load, too.  Mikey.

I guess no one told all those hundreds of thousands of animals that the lowly .303 British has slain over the past 117 years or so. In fact the old MkV1 loading with the 215 Grn bullet performed very well on African game, then later the 174/180 grain loading continued building the reputation both in soft point configuration I might add. 150 Grn bullets are on the light side for the .303 although I have used the Hornady 150 Grn Spire Point in a BSA sporting rifle in .303 to good effect on Fallow Deer.

Please convey my congratulations to your brother on a very nice animal.

I agree with the 150 being too light, I also like the heavier bullet, but then I do I explain this
to my brother. He used it now on kudu, blesbuck and this hartebeest.
All one shot kills, and except for the bullet on one kudu all other bullets exited.

He hunts in more open areas and wanted the slightly less drop
of the faster bullet. I presume the 150gr's still have enough momentum
to do the job.

Hi there

I too, like the heavier bullet for the 303 but also want a bit more range.  I also used 150gr Hornady Spire Points but found that at 2690 fps muzzle velocity, they did too much damage on Impala at close range.  At 10m I had total bullet failure on a chest shot, blowing a 3 rib hole going in and fragmenting.  (Blew the heart too so it made no difference but the skin was ruined)!
