My first MORTAR
« on: July 09, 2007, 03:23:28 PM »
My grandfather wanted a big boom for the 4th so i said i mite make one i work at a machine shop and it would be easy to make one so i spent about 10hr of research for free plans that i could use but what i wanted was something that kinda looked like the 13 inch seacoast mortars but i could not find anything. So what i made was a golf ball sized boor but since its my first time i wanted to be safe so i used a piece of 5in 4140 and turned it down so it was round then bored the barrel out to 1.75 witch worked good. The first shoot i used prodex and about 1tea spoon by the time i got done i use 2 table spoons for a good bang. I love it the golf ball went out of site still cant find it lol. I shoot blanks out of paper packed as tight as i can it works good. The sled is all most done, by the way the best stain to me for a old look is kerosene and used motor oil. but here is some pics.
