Here's a picture of a Black Bear that has been frequenting one of our deer stands.

He's been around for a couple of years now. I'll bet he goes at least 400 - 450 pounds (you guys think so?). I'm not a very good estimator of weight.

After waiting 6 years to get his Bear permit, my Son claims this is the year big blacky is going down.

Hard to tell from that pic get some more and I'll know more. The outlined parts I can see in the picture sure give him potential. From his stance and the blocky look to him makes me feel he may be a very good boar.

There are soooooo many bears in WI lately. My friends and family have seen many in the past 2 weeks for some reason. I hope your son gets this big boy. What is he going to use to bag him?

If we get some more good pics, I'll be sure to post them. We know he is still around though because we've been seeing his tracks and scat all over the place. Now if we could just get him to walk out in front of the camera a little more often.

I would bet on him using his Remington BDL, 300 Ultra Mag. However, he is also a superb archer and it wouldn't surprise me a bit if he went after that big boy with his Hoyt Bow and broadheads. If he goes with the bow, I'm going to insist that he take one of my revolvers for a back up though.

This bear looks like a good candidate for a 300 mag,, although a well placed arrow would be fine.

I'm not a good judge of weight estimation either, but from the pic, he looks like a porker.

When was that pic taken?

Thanks for the excellent link.

We have never measured the tracks, but we've always noted they are huge. Armed with this new knowledge we will start paying more attention to the details and get some measurements.

These pictures are from late Fall of last year, right around the time we took the cameras down.

We just put a camera up this past weekend and my boy retrieved some new pictures today. However, so far all we have is a few shots of raccoons and a coyote, but we are keeping our fingers crossed that ol' Blacky is going to show up again as usual. We'll just give him a little time. It's still pretty early.

Big bear, hard to tell. If the pics were taken this spring then it is a real big bear because bear are skinny in the spring. by fall he will put on another 50lbs. at least. Hey cheesehead, the bear are really moving this time of year because they mate in the spring. I'm sure little boars are getting their buts kicked out of a lot of areas by the bigger bears too.

He looks like a whopper. Maybe he'll wander into the U.P. near where we put a stand up recently.
