Burris Signature Zee's
« on: July 11, 2007, 01:45:24 PM »
I know that this question has been answered somewhere but I can't find it.

I am changing the rings on 2 of my Handis.  I'll be using Burris Signature Zees.  Will their medium rings be tall enough for a 2-7x32 and a 3-10x40?  I have to mail order them in.

Thanks.
Steve

Well depend on the Brand of scope and the size of the Occular (SP) bell, some like the Bushnell have a great big sucker that will hit the Hammer, you will have no prob on the Big end, I have 50MM's in Lows and Med. ~Ace~

I should have mentioned that the scopes are both Bushnell Elite 3200s.  I'm pretty sure that the hammer will clear using medium rings and the 2-7, but I'm unsure about the 3-10x40.

Those scopes may be a problem with mediums, the big power rings will most likely be the problem, but if the hammer hits, you can always take a little off the hammer tip with a dremel. ;)

I had to put the hammer extension on upside down, and dremel a tad off the hammer to use Low rings, but it was Not a Bushnell size scope, it was a Nikon. Meds will be very close.

Medium signature Z rings are taller than the standard medium (without incerts) Burris Z rings, about half way between the high and medium standard rings.  Try the medium Signature first.  Larry

I had the same issue with Bushnell scopes -- that big ocular bell, even with a fixed 4x. Used a small flat file to relieve the hammer extension, mounted it upside-down, and then used a Dremel cutoff wheel to remove the excess hammer spur. I am a lefty, so it did not interfere with the barrel release, but the right side (not the extension itself) did need to be trimmed and cleaned up a bit.

Currently using Weaver mediums, and might be able to get away with lows -- there's space to spare now. Learned the procedure from someone on this board, as usual!

Standard medium Zee rings(no poly inserts) are .255" tall from top to the rail to the bottom of the scope tube, medium Signature Zee rings are .270" tall.

With a little hammer modification, even the bulbous Bushnell scopes can be mounted in medium Sig Zees. ;)

My thanks to all who responded.  To be sure, I'll order a first set but try both scopes.

All the best,
Steve
