Your most expensive scope on a handi

Well mine is a bsa 6x24 at around 100 bucks :o I want to start clicking for distance next year on groundhogs and have been looking at sightrons, leupolds ect, I havnt noticed many high end scopes on handis on here and was just wondering what your best glass is on a handi ?

 I think I have a even dozen handis scoped with Leupold's VXII scopes.  :o ( Don't tell my wife!!)

Three with VX I scopes and one with a NIKON 6X18 something or other.

 Expensive, yes. Worth it, to me, YES! I bought the majority of mine used for about the cost of a handi. (200 beans) Lifetime guarantee so NO WORRIES. Even if you THINK there is a problem, send it back and have it checked out. Just pay shipping!

 I have run the gamut with scopes on handis. Back in the late 80's when shotgun/black powder scopes where just emerging. Simmons made a BP scope in 2X. It was a wonderful tiny little thing. I mounted it in weaver LO rings on a 82 base. Thing was that it offered about 12" of eye relief and a 20mm objective. It was about 6" long so the length of the 82 base fit it well with no alterations. Also because of the eye relief it could be mounted INFRONT of the hammer. Allowing it to be mounted right down on the barrel. It was slick and worked well. back then I only really used handis in shotgun guise and nothing was tapped for scope mounts. So I had to do this myself as well. They worked and shot very well for what they where. I wish I had a couple pix of those early handis...
 Later on  found the virtues of a good scope and fell in love with the Leupold VXII 2X7X32 scope. It a perfect size and power for almost everything I have done. Its too short for my Mauser bolts, so they get the 3X9 or 4X12 scope.

 So for me, its Leupold's almost exclusively!

I have a bushnell 6x18 x50 maybe 44 on my .223, and a mueller 4.5X14-44 on the .308, I think the mueller cost just a little more with the shipping but is a whole lot handier.

Same as you a 6X24 BSA, on my 223 Ultra. Very good scope for the money.

My 280 Improved Ultra sports a 3-10x44 Mueller Tac II, have a 270 Ultracomp with one on it too, these scopes are comparable to a Leupold VXIII in quality, but not price, built in Japan they're very fine scopes. ;)

It would either be a Simmons 44 Mag 3X10X44 on a Camo laminate SE .280 or a Nikon Pro Staff on a Handi .280.  However, the Nikon was $99 closeout at a local shop and the 44 mag was a $79 closeout at Bass Pro a couple years back.

hello...don't be afraid to spend money on a good scope...just because the rifle is $220 or whatever doesn't mean you can't spend the same or more on a scope...i see guy's all the time with a remmy sendaro or browning or whatever & they have a tasco sitting on top ?? often time's folk's put to little value in their scope..it's a big mistake in my opinion...good luck !!

Mine is a Pentax 4-16X50 Gameseeker. Got 2 on the bay for $130 shipped (each). Great scope for the money IMO. Have them on my 223 and 17HMR.

On my barrels I have a 3x-9x Nikon pro staff on a 7.62x39, an old El Paso Weaver 8x on a Hornet, a 6x Redfield on my 500 S&W and a 60's era 2 3/4 Redfield on my 38-55.  I like the slim bodied scopes on the handi....I have put my 10x40 3200 on my handi's from time to time during load testing.  Most of the scopes on my hnadi's are about $100 or less. It makes my scoped handi barrels about the same price as a "naked" TC barrel.
I am thinking I might swap the scopes on the 500 and on the 38-55....

I have a Mueller 8.5x25x44 on the way to put on my Ultra Varmint. My next scope will be the  Pentax 4-16X50 Gameseeker that I will put on my 204 barrel and then move to my 280 barrel this deer season. The reason I want to move it to the 280 is the farmer said I could hunt deer there this season and and some of the shots could be up to 400 yards plus. The mueller scope is $160.00 or so depending where you get it and the Pantax is $140.00

I have a Burris 6.5-20x50 ballistic mil dot on my 6x47 Handi. Forgot the price
but it was somewhere between 450 and 500.

It is a fine scope fore long range varmints, using the mil dots is quite easy together with the stadia markings out to 600yards.

$45 Tasco 4-12x40

My others are a $29(at a shop that is priced high) 3-9x40 Simmons and a 4x32Bushnell $32.
Some would say junk but my bullets seem to follow the cross hairs.

Probably the most exp is my bushnell elite 4200 1.5--6x36 Firefly on 7mm08, I think it lists for about 400, got it from Natchez for 259. next Burris 3x9 fulfield II on the 308 survivor(200), Mueller 8-25x44 on the 223 bull barrel(159), Millet 6-18x44 on the 17m2(69), Hunter wicked optics 3x9 on the muzzle loader barrel(110).  Bushnell 4x trophy???? I think,  on my son's 243(can't remember price)

Love the Mueller for target, even though the millets not bad.  Generally just hunt with the rest.

My pre-bancruptcy 30-30 slimline and my Tracker II both wear 1.5-5x20mm Leupold VariX III's. Price new was around 400 dollars each I have less than that in both of them combined having bought them used. The others are adorned with 1-3x20mm Weaver V3's

Buy what you can. 

I have one scope that I would bet my life on and it is a Simmons ATV of all things.  It has been consistent through 3 rifle changes and 4 years of work.  The others are other low end scopes from $100-200.  I don't have total confidence in any of them, but I would take them to the deer woods or to the range with no real worries. 

If I was going on the proverbial guided hunt of a lifetime, then I would probably take my Remington 7-08.  I am confident in my handloads, the bedding, the stock, and the feeding.  I would also buy a new scope and work it over before I went, probably at the $400 price point. 

That is really what matters today (in my opinion):  the price point and your piece of mind.  Will I feel confident taking the shot?  You can get a LOT of scope for $200 today.  The returns start to diminish really fast over $400.
