JMO, but the extra length adds back the weight up front for the missing 2nd barrel, and some extra smoothness to the barrel swing - both of which help improve shooting scores at that particular game.
The longer rib also gives a better sight picture than a shorter rib, where a longer rib on a double also means longer barrels X2, which can be too heavy.
