Is there public hunting land in Ontario?

I was thinking about trying to get back up to Ontario this year for some Bear hunting & fishing.  If I do I'd like to find a place where I can just drive to.  Setup a tent, and start scouting for bears & good fishing.

Is it possible for an American to go hunting on Canadian public land?  Does Ontario even have public land like this to hunt on?

the law says you need a guide , unless it changed . That's how the outfitters make a living and insure a client list !

Ontario has about 350,000 sq. miles of public (Crown) land, so there's plenty available.  Access may be a little difficult since so much of it is remote.

You need a guide to hunt moose and bear in this province, but last time I checked none was needed for deer, turkey and small game hunting.  It's best to check with the MNR though.

Their web site is www.mnr.gov.on.ca .  You may have to wander around the site a bit to find what you're looking for.
