remington bolt slop

I took in a 700 chambered in 7mm rem mag and notices that when the bolt fully closed on an empty chamber you had about .100 in horizontal slop in the bollt. i suspected a massive headspace problem but when i checked it with gauges it was dead on!
the reciever is not cracked and bolt seems to function well. any help appreciated.

No way. How about .010? Typically the bolts are .695 and the hole is about .705. It's normal, and needed for proper function.

When a round is chambered, the bolt is usually tighter also.  The bolts in some of my old mausers will rattle if the bolt is closed and uncocked but when cocked and loaded they are plenty tight and it doesn't appear to affect the accuracy.

Diameter of the bolt is .691 and thats fine, the slop is in the lateral movement. talked to brownells and they chalk it up to bad quality control in regards to barrell fitment in relation to bolts outer ring,and barrell . should be between .009 and .010 and it is more like ,.060

Shouldn't affect the function but sure shoots holes in the '3 rings of steel' sales pitch.. Got any ideas on the age of the rifle or if it's been rebarreled?

Original sendero barrell and it is a well shot rifle"many rounds". I have been rebarrelling many remingtons and if youwant to see a great video go to the lilja website and watch the clip. It is a wonder you can even hit a target with a stock remington barrell. they run their tooling to long and the barrell suffers. anyway it keeps guys like me in business by accurizing and rebarrelling rifles for those who strive for true "sub moa" performance.
