Colt Trooper Mk111
« on: July 06, 2007, 04:54:18 AM »
I always wanted a Python, but could never afford one.  Even today Id gladly swap my duty  Sig Pro for a 4 or 6 inch Python and feel better armed and better dressed.  Sadly thats not likely to happen, so when I stumbled onto a nice 6inch Trooper I jumped on it.  Just about the next day I found a nicer one.  The dealer is asking $475 which is more than the first, but its a consignment piece and he wont budge.  Im already committed to the first one and the second one is in another shop so I cant ask for a "two-fer" deal.  The second dealer was nice enough to hold it for me for a couple days.  Man, I really want it but even Im wondering why.  I realize the price is relative since they arent being made any more.  I have this nihilistic urge to have two.

The second one is wearing "Goodyear" grips,  but "he" thinks he might have the original wood set.  It is nice and smooth.  Ok not Python smooth, but still nice, and its the later Mk111 style which I like better than the early round barrel.

Whatdaya think?  Any Colt fans out there?  Is the price fair? the first one was just $400.  Neither has a box or papers.

I have had a 6", 357, Trooper Mark III since the 1970s. I've taken it all over. It's never let me down. It's accurate and has an excellent trigger. I have no idea how many rounds have been through it but several thousand at least. So I can say the Trooper is a fine serviceable revolver.

However, you say you cannot afford a Python, and now you are talking about buying two Troopers, why not take the money and buy a Python ? If you want a Python, you should buy it.

Gee, 40 now you re takin' the fun out of this.  I really cant afford the second one but Ive put the dealer's kids through Harvard (or so it seems), and I think I just might be able to s t r e ch out the payments to make it hurt less.  In the end I guess youre right I should just save and buy a python but thats definitely gonna have to wait.

Edel,
why is the second so much better?  Did you buy the first or just put it on hold?

Following 40's comment - Why not use the first and enjoy it and save for a Python as that is the object of your desires.

there are a couple of gunshops here that have 1 year layaway. never can tell what they have in stock. both carry quite a large inventory. good luck with your dilema. i have a trooper and they are fun to shoot.
