How about paying $1.49 for a bottle of water????  I wish that I had thought of that scam!  Imagine, beer has actual ingredients that must be cooked, and aged for months but a single can still sells for about the same as a bottle of water! And we are not talking about the only water available, there is always a water cooler.

I probably wouldn't pay a premium for an unfitted barrel, but might pay a premium to H&R for faster service.  Hey, I just paid $150 for a used Ultra Varmint .223 in excellent condition! I would have paid most of that for a new barrel, and now I have an action and premium stock.  Another local gun shop will pay me, in cash, what I paid.  If I want another caliber, I'll wait until one hits the shop since I don't want any exotic calibers anyway.  They have a .30-30 for $140, but I have a great Savage 340 and a Savage 24 in that caliber already.

I was all excited that 450 Marlin barrel was $242.50 on e-bay, then i noticed that post was in Jan.
I was going to list mine that i bought on e-bay 6 weeks ago for $90.00, $15.00 shipping
E-BAY is like the live auctions i go to, it all depends on who is there, some times i buy trailers
at a good price so i can make money, next day dif. auction pretty much same trailer goes
for 2-3 thousand more
lots of times it is an ego thing, i will show you.

If a person has something to sell...and sells it for a profit to another person...this doesn't make the person buying it stupid..or foolish..or dumb........We cannot make blanket statements about what someone else does with their money...only what we do ourselves...They may come to realize they could have done better if they would have waited..or they may perfectly happy with their purchase...Not everybody looks for the best deals around..and some buy the first one they see...Most of us here just shake our heads at some one who pays way to much for barrels on the "Bay"..I think those that do this should give ole Graybeard a big  THANK YOU for making it possible we have the classifieds here so we don't have to pay those prices all the time...

Thanks Boss... ;)

Think it's a coincidence that Evian spelled backwards is Naive?

When I pigged out on the 2005 barrel sale (ordered nine, including two .357 and two 30-30), I was thinking of ordering a 450 Ultra barrel for eBaying, they were something like $77 at the time. I suppose I should check my unfired barrels and see if I have one. Too bad I was busy last winter when they were selling for $250.

Ebay is an interesting place to observer human behavior and the market. Luck and and a little knowledge can produce some astounding results.
I bought 14 boxes of new Federal 7MM IHMSA brass at a gunshow for $14 total. I figured it would bring $5 to $7 per box on Ebay.
I put it on there with a $20 reserve for 3 boxes and no one bid. No sale!! I removed the reserve and guys started bidding and I got $79 for the first 3 boxes. I eventually sold 13 boxes for $245. The last box was a partial box and I sold those 18 off to collectors one case at a time.
It was a strange episode.

Who cares about what people are charging/paying for gun barrels and soda pop?   I'm miffed that pubs and restaurants charge $3.50 or more for a beer when you can buy a whole six pack at the grocery store for around $5.00!  Priorities men, priorities!    ;)  ;D

This is a question that has baffled mankind for ions of time. The obvious thing to do is help those stupid fools by profiting from their stupidity.

Here is why I may be considered stupid...

I want a 30-06 ejector barrel. Customer Service tells me they only have extractor barrels now. The price of an extractor barrel from H&R is $87 + $25 fitting/S&H + the $10 or so it takes to ship my receiver & forearm to them. Thats $122, and I won't even be getting what I really want. If I can get exactly what I want, for a few dollars more, I'll do it.

So I guess what I'm saying is, sometimes you may have to pay more. Although, I'm not sure I want to be paying $156 for what I want either.

Being miffed that you have to pay more for what you want is natural...but..only you can decide if you want it bad enough......As you can see some here feel that if you did..you wouldn't be very smart...but...they aren't you...and you are the one wanting that particular style barrel ...Just because they think that way...doesn't mean every one does...There is one thing to bear in mind about what and how folks sells things...Supply & demand...When the supply dries up...and the demand increases...prices go up......If you want an ejector barrel and can get one now...even though it may cost a few bucks more..you have 2 options...wait...and hope someone here sells or trades one in...or buy the slightly higher priced one there now......either way...you can bet later on they will become more expensive...There are a-lot of folks that visit this site and read what folks want to buy...then sell what they have over there with out posting here...They know many here want ejector barrels...and If they can make a profit on it over there...they will...What do you think a good 30-o6 ejector barrel is worth? What do you think it will be worth in a couple years? Is it worth an extra $34 to you now....? Putting a value on what you want is difficult at best...but...knowing how un-happy would you be with a new extractor barrel in 30-o6 with out having one is impossible to know...

My self...I would rather take my chances with a new one than any from e-bay...no matter what the price on it...I know if I have any problems with it in any way...I can pick up the phone and call Gordon and Jennifer and have it fixed with out any hassle...I may miss out on some of the older ejector barrels...but...I don't really care...I don't have to worry about any cases failing to eject..and since I am using a single shot...I make sure my first shot is what counts...To me...this is what using a single shot is all about...1 shot...1 kill...If I need a bunch of shots...I use a gun that gives me that...

Sometimes there are discussions and deals behind the scenes also.
I have paid what would appear to be an outrageous price for an item, but what other viewers don't know is I am getting additional items or accessories as well added on.
If you know for a fact that a single barrel, and nothing else was involved, then you could comment with complete knowledge of the transaction.
I am constantly communicating with sellers and sometimes obtaining additional benefits besides the original item.
With a barrel, it might be dies, brass, etc etc.
You as a spectator do not always know the complete story.
Just my observation.

It's simple supply and demand. No 5 or 6 or more weeks to wait for the barrel to be fitted at the factory.

or as in the case of like the 357 they have not been available for several months let alone a 6-8 week wait. I ran the 357max bbl that is on ebay right now to over $160 before I bailed. Kurt

While I sell barrels on e-bay and make more than they cost I haven't had one go that expensive yet.

The highest selling barrel to date has been a shortened to 16.5" 500S&W MAG, with 2x TRUGLO red dot. It went for a rather underwhelming $170 or about what everything cost

Common SB2 barrels routinely sell for $125-$150, up to sometimes well over $200, I sold a 30-06 Ultracomp for $160 plus shipping. I once bid up to my limit on a 22 Jet barrel that sold for well over $200, $260 comes to mind IIRC, but it was outrageous!! Seems to me a 7x57 barrel recently sold for over $200 also.
